Sound Kinetics

PreMaster Project | an interactive project translating sound into visuals via body movement.

Equipment | Woo!Board – Wii Remote – Processing – Max/MSP

Supervision | Jochen Braun

Brief | Sound Kinetics is a PreMaster project based purely on exploration and experimentation. The concept was graspped and adapted from the basics of the old 1969 Kenner‘s Spirograph Toy.The understanding of the mechanism and aesthetics of a spirograph was achieved during experimentation with the basic analogue toy.

Outcome | The above slideshow displays over 50 different translations to the audio "Asfalt Tango" By Fanfare Ciocãrila via 50 variations of body motion.

:: Understanding the Mechanism

:: Concept

An entertaining way to designing tangible spirographical pattern application via audio to body movement translation using the Woo!Board. The user is assigned a simple task of moving according to what he/she hears. According to how the user moves, these movements are manipulating certain attributes (e.g Diameter, Gear size). These attributes are responsible for the outcome of the patterns. As follows, the results are printed and are applicable to any form of application (e.g Coaster, Tiles, Bookmarks, etc.)
